Our extra-curricular highlights

Choir
Welcome to our school choir! We are excited to invite all students in Years 1 to 6 to join us. The choir meets once a week during recess or lunch, providing a fun and relaxed environment for everyone to sing together. This year, we are focusing on songs for our whole school musical, 'Cinderella Rockerfella,' where we will perform some fantastic chorus items. We sing a variety of songs from different styles, so there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Come and be a part of our musical journey, meet new friends across the school, and have a great time!

Rock Band
Any students who can play an instrument are welcome to join the Redhead Rock band - guitar, drums, singing, bass, violin...anything. There are plenty of rock songs out there so I'm sure we can find a good fit for the level of talent and the instrument.
NOTE: we do prefer students have, at the very least, a beginners understanding of their chosen instrument as teaching children from scratch is too time consuming. ROCK ON!

Art Club
Art Club offers students a quiet, reflective space where they can unwind and express themselves through creative exploration. It provides a calm environment that encourages personal growth, imagination, and experimentation with different artistic media. Whether building technical skills or simply enjoying the meditative process of making art, students benefit from a supportive atmosphere where creativity thrives. Terms 1 and 4.

Yarn
Our Indigenous students meet every second Wednesday at lunch time on the odd weeks. We discuss issues of importance to Indigenous Australians and run special days like Harmony Day, Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC week. This term the Yarn students are running Aboriginal Studies sessions for Stage 1 and 2 students who are interested in learning more about Indigenous Australians and their culture.

Humanitarian
This year Stage 2 and 3 students meet every second Wednesday on the even weeks. During these sessions we choose charities to supportand determine how to support them. We also participate in service to the community activities including visits to Whiddon Nursing Home and collaborative afternoons at the Community Library with the local pre-school.

APSMO
APSMO is a weekly mathematics extension group for students who would like to develop their numerical skills. At recess or lunch students solve maths problems with the aim of building their capacity in mathematics. We offer three groups: Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 3 and the groups are open to any student who would like to attend. The Stage 2 and 3 groups have formal assessments that occur four times a year. Student progress is tracked and compared to other students around Australia. At the end of the year all students who participate are awarded a certificate.

Coding Club
3-6 students are invited to join our lunchtime tech club where they will have opportinities to participate in hands on, innovative technology lessons immersing themselves in coding challenges. Students develop their critical and creative thinking skills while working on small group projects.

Gardening Club
K-6 students are welcomed at lunchtimes to the Redhead garden to help maintain our thriving vegetable patch. Students are able to help with weeding, planting, watering and harvesting the garden.

Student Voice
The Student Voice Team is a way for students to be heard and share ideas about their school life. From the day to day, to hopes for the future, the idea is to give students a say about what goes on in our school.
The Student Voice Team comprises of two representatives from each class, K-6, chosen by their peers. Each term two new representatives are chosen.
The Student Voice Team meet three times per term to discuss the issues and concerns raised by them and their classmates to be passed on or acted upon.

Debating
Debating is a fun and interactive way for students to develop their speaking and listening skills. It gives the opportunity to spark curiosity and to sharpen a student’s thinking. It encourages all students to express their opinions, think critically and respect the viewpoints of others in a supportive environment. The students participate in friendly debates on simple yet engaging topics which allows them to build confidence, teamwork and problem-solving skills while fostering a love for public speaking and healthy discussion.
Whether arguing for a longer recess or the use of technology in a classroom, our young debaters learn the power of words and respectful disagreement.

Girl/Boy Talk
In response to student voice and school wellbeing data ‘Girl Talk’ and 'Boy Talk', was launched at Redhead Public School in 2024 and 2025. 'Girl Talk' and 'Boy Talk' is a lunchtime mentoring program which is responsive to students needs. The sessions run as on need for students primarily in Stages 2 & 3.
‘Girl Talk’ and 'Boy Talk' aligns with The Resilience Project (TRP) lessons and ACARA’s Personal and Social Capability framework. The sessions aim to strengthen learning and citizenship foundations by:
