Extra-curricular

Extra-curricular Programs

At Redhead Public School, we believe in providing a well-rounded education that goes beyond the classroom. Our extra-curricular activities offer students a variety of opportunities to explore their interests, develop new skills, and contribute to the school community.

Wanayi Dance

Choir

Rock Band

Any students who can play an instrument are welcome to join the Redhead Rock band - guitar, drums, singing, bass, violin...anything. There are plenty of rock songs out there so I'm sure we can find a good fit for the level of talent and the instrument. NOTE: we do prefer students have at the very least a beginners understanding of their chosen instrument as teaching children from scratch is too time consuming. ROCK ON!

Art Club

Mrs Thomas can be found once a week in Terms 1 and 4 during lunchtimes providing students with a creative space create, design and imagine. Students have the opportunity to produce a variety of artworks guided by the talented Mrs Thomas.

Yarn

Our Indigenous students are run every second Wednesday at lunch time on the odd weeks. We discuss issues of importance to Indigenous Australians. We run special days like Harmony Day, Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC week. This term the Yarn students are running Aboriginal Studies sessions for Stage 1 and 2 students who are interested in learning more about Indigenous Australians and their culture.

Humanitarian

Includes 3-6 students and runs every second Wednesday on the even weeks. During these sessions we choose charities to support and how we will support them. We also participate in service to the community activities. This term this involves going to Whiddon Nursing Home and next term it will be the community library where students will organise activities for the preschoolers.

APSMO

APSMO is a weekly mathematics extension group for students who would like to develop their numerical skills. At recess or lunch students solve math problems with an aim of building their capacity in mathematics. We offer three groups: Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 3 and the groups are open to any student who would like to attend. The Stage 2 and 3 groups have formal assessment's that occur four times a year, student progress is tracked and compared to other students around Australia. At the end of the year all students who participate are award a certificate.

Gardening Club

K-6 students are welcomed at lunchtimes to the Redhead garden to help maintain our thriving vegetable patch. Students are able to help with weeding, planting, watering and harvesting the garden.

Student voice

The Student Voice Team is a way for students to be heard and share ideas about their school life. From the day to day, to hopes for the future, the idea is to give students a say about what goes on in our school.

The Student Voice Team comprises of two representatives from each class, K-6, chosen by their peers. Each term two new representatives are chosen.

The Student Voice Team meet three times per term to discuss the issues and concerns raised by them and their classmates to be passed on or acted upon.

Sporting Opportunities

Redhead Public School boasts a unique environment that enriches our students' sporting experiences. Nestled within close proximity to stunning Redhead Beach, our school offers unparalleled opportunities for beach sports, fostering a love for physical activity in our students from an early age. Adjacent to the renowned Fernleigh Track, students enjoy biking or walking amidst picturesque surroundings.

Our utilization of local facilities such as tennis courts, Liles Oval, and Springloaded venues for futsal and trampolining further enhances our comprehensive sports program. With a strong emphasis on High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE), our school consistently supports students in achieving remarkable sporting feats at regional, state, and national levels.

At Redhead Public School, our dynamic sports program not only encourages physical wellbeing but also nurtures leadership, teamwork, and a lifelong passion for active living.
