SPELLING
Each week students will frequently practice writing their spelling words aligned to the Stage 1 Scope and Sequence during literacy sessions. Spelling lists will be posted on your child’s Class Dojo. Some creative ways to make this a fun learning experience are writing in chalk on cement/chalkboard, writing in the air with their finger, typing words, or simply writing them on paper with pencil.
MATHS GAMES
Below is a homework grid with some suggested mathematics ideas your child and family might like to undertake at home. In addition, card games, dice games, matific online, cooking, counting in the car by 2’s, 5’s and 10’s etc are other activities which can be done at home to support mathematical thinking.
HOME READING
Home Readers can be sent home from school in your child’s plastic home reader folder/wallet or you may choose to read PM readers via Cengage PM online. We hope that all students will read at least 5 nights per week (10 minutes), although every night would be even better. The focus is on regular reading and not the amount (number of books) being read each time. Your child is welcome to read a range of different texts and is not limited to school readers. They may delve into library books, magazines, graphic novels, diaries, recipes books, letters, non-fiction and fiction texts. It's important your child has a degree of choice in what they read as this will boost their level of interest and engagement in reading.
